Fuel Economy Overview

The 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2WD achieves an EPA-estimated 16 MPG in combined city and highway driving, with 14 MPG in the city and 19 MPG on the highway. Powered by a 4L 6-cylinder engine paired with a automatic 4-spd, this sport utility vehicle - 2wd features Rear-Wheel Drive drive.

In terms of environmental impact, the 2004 Grand Cherokee 2WD produces approximately 555 grams of CO2 per mile. This figure is measured under standardized EPA test conditions and represents tailpipe emissions only. For context, the average new vehicle sold in the United States produces approximately 400 grams of CO2 per mile, meaning this Grand Cherokee 2WD has higher-than-average emissions in this regard.

The estimated annual fuel cost for this vehicle is $3,750, based on 15,000 miles of driving per year and current national average fuel prices. Compared to the average new vehicle, you would save $8,000 over a 5-year period. This calculation accounts for differences in fuel consumption efficiency and provides a practical measure of long-term ownership costs attributable to fuel economy.

The Brick Effect: Highway Speed Penalty

EPA highway tests average roughly 48 mph. Driving at 75 mph increases aerodynamic drag exponentially. Because the Sport Utility Vehicle - 2WD has a large frontal area, expect your real-world highway fuel economy to drop by up to 25% at high speeds.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2003 Jeep Liberty vehicles manufactured March 29, 2003, to July 3, 2003, and 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured May 27, 2003, to May 20, 2004. Due to electrical noise beyond the tolerance of the air bag electronic control module (ECM), a component in the ECM may fail, causing the front air bags, side air bags, and/or seatbelt pretensioners to deploy inadvertently while the vehicle is being operated.

Consequence & Remedy

Consequence: Inadvertent deployment of the air bags may increase the risk of injury and the possibility of a vehicle crash.

Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the air bag electronic control module and the side impact sensors, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on May 5, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R60.
