Fuel Economy Overview

The 2004 Scion xA achieves an EPA-estimated 30 MPG in combined city and highway driving, with 27 MPG in the city and 34 MPG on the highway. Powered by a 1.5L 4-cylinder engine paired with a automatic 4-spd, this subcompact cars features Front-Wheel Drive drive.

In terms of environmental impact, the 2004 xA produces approximately 296 grams of CO2 per mile. This figure is measured under standardized EPA test conditions and represents tailpipe emissions only. For context, the average new vehicle sold in the United States produces approximately 400 grams of CO2 per mile, meaning this xA performs better than the national average in this regard.

The estimated annual fuel cost for this vehicle is $2,000, based on 15,000 miles of driving per year and current national average fuel prices. Compared to the average new vehicle, you would spend $750 over a 5-year period. This calculation accounts for differences in fuel consumption efficiency and provides a practical measure of long-term ownership costs attributable to fuel economy.

Component: AIR BAGS: AIR BAG/RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2004-2006 Toyota Scion xA vehicles. The air bag control module for the supplemental restraint system (SRS ECU) may experience an internal short, possibly causing the air bags to unintentionally deploy, or become deactivated.

Consequence & Remedy

Consequence: If the air bags and/or seat belt pretensioners unintentionally deploy, it can increase the risk of a crash. If the air bags and/or seat belt pretensioners are deactivated, it can increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the SRS ECU, and if necessary, replace the air bag control module, free of charge. The recall began December 21, 2018. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371. Toyota's number for this recall is J0W.
