2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Pickup 2WD
Fuel Economy Overview
The 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Pickup 2WD achieves an EPA-estimated 15 MPG in combined city and highway driving, with 14 MPG in the city and 19 MPG on the highway. Powered by a 4.7L 8-cylinder engine paired with a automatic 5-spd, this standard pickup trucks 2wd features Rear-Wheel Drive drive.
In terms of environmental impact, the 2009 Ram 1500 Pickup 2WD produces approximately 592 grams of CO2 per mile. This figure is measured under standardized EPA test conditions and represents tailpipe emissions only. For context, the average new vehicle sold in the United States produces approximately 400 grams of CO2 per mile, meaning this Ram 1500 Pickup 2WD has higher-than-average emissions in this regard.
The estimated annual fuel cost for this vehicle is $4,000, based on 15,000 miles of driving per year and current national average fuel prices. Compared to the average new vehicle, you would save $9,250 over a 5-year period. This calculation accounts for differences in fuel consumption efficiency and provides a practical measure of long-term ownership costs attributable to fuel economy.

Personalized Commute CalculatorEPA defaults to 55% City / 45% Hwy
Adjust the slider to match your daily driving habits. City driving involves stop-and-go traffic under 45mph, while highway driving represents sustained speeds over 55mph.
The Brick Effect: Highway Speed Penalty
EPA highway tests average roughly 48 mph. Driving at 75 mph increases aerodynamic drag exponentially. Because the Standard Pickup Trucks 2WD has a large frontal area, expect your real-world highway fuel economy to drop by up to 25% at high speeds.

The rear axle pinion nut may loosen due to an undersized pinion spline that can allow relative motion between the nut and companion flange.
Consequence & Remedy
Consequence: If the rear axle pinion nut loosens, the axle can lock up and cause a loss of vehicle control and/or a vehicle crash with little warning.
Remedy: On November 7, 2013 Chrysler notified owners that dealers would install a pinion nut retainer, free of charge. In July 2015, and under a consent order with NHTSA, the company agreed to offer owners three options for remedying their vehicles: perform the original remedy, offer to repurchase the vehicle at the fair market value plus 10%, or offer an additional incentive offer towards the purchase of a new Dodge, Jeep, Chrysler, or Fiat vehicle. Chrysler will notify owners of the new recall options in a letter expected to be mailed on August 31, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. Chrysler's recall campaign number is N08.
